Darkness, cramps and flashing lights

13:50

Sorry about that, actually had some work to do.. Oh and lunch..

Where were we? Ah yes. The burger. Yep. It was way too juicy, if ya know what I mean. It was starting to get dark by this time.. This is Saturday night were talking about now, in case you couldn't be arsed reading this mornings rambling nonsense.. So there I am finishing off the burger under a Coleman lantern. Turns out that I didn't cook it long enough. Either that or I had a better hangover than I feel is justified for the amount of beer that was consumed.

I move down to the basement. It's only 7:30, it's getting dark quick and I don't really want to go out. So I hang the lantern off of a hook on the unfinished side of the basement and start reading. A couple of hours later and the power still hasn't come on. Seriously bored, or should I say I want to try out the new level of self understanding that I have gleaned from the roundtrip. "What's this?", I hear you say. "He peeled himself like a onion and looked inside, and he didn't mention it earlier?". Sorry. I simply realised that I've been trying to put the cart before the horse. The goal is a wife. Err. The goal is a long term partner. You don't find that right out of the blocks now do ya? You have to at least wait until the fun wears thin or not, before you have the faintest idea. And anyway as I thought about it today. I shouldn’t be whining about being "without" for 20 months. It's a matter of balance. *grin* I liked that, it put it in perspective again. So anyway I realised that I should be having fun with the girlies. Not interviewing them! For freaks sake! Shite, sometimes I have more fun interviewing people that I do talking to prospective candidates..

AM I WANDERING AGAIN??

About 9pm I'd had enough and start walking. What the hell, lets see how many people are messed up by the whole blackout situation. I walk past half the street, as there sitting outside there houses watching and drinkin'. On there stoops. I wish I had a stoop. When I get to the top of the street, there are lights on everywhere. It turns out it's basically my street and one over that are powerless. Brilliant. At least the bar should be open. Half way there I call Surly and find out what he's doing. Not a lot as it happens, but I should call him if there are any eligible women there. Ugh-huh.

I finally get to the bar, it's like 70 degrees outside. With 70 or 80% humidity, everything feels wet. Nasty. Sitting at the bar, the burger is making itself felt more and more and the thought of greasy food isn't appealing at all. When the arsehole next to me orders shots. Fair enough, I'm feeling fairly mellow since the little server girly has actually spoken to me a couple of times - she usually ignores me - and it looks like she's fishing to sit with me when she gets off shift. Nice ;) That's when the bastard next to me starts pretending to smoke.

I was a smoker for a number of years. This bugger was one of those "I only smoke when I drink", bastards! There he is waving his ciggy around, so no matter where I move the smoke is following me, then he leaves it in the ashtray for ten minutes. "Oh that ones done!", and promptly lights another. Bollocks.

After a couple of Guinness I simply have to leave. I can't take it anymore.

As I turn onto my street there's what looks like a fire truck outside of my house. And then I notice the flashing lights in the driveway. Ah fook. The house has burned down in the two hours I've been gone. And the lights are still off! Bloody hell!

As I get closer I notice that it's just a truck with it high beams on, and the flashing lights are coming off the police car in the neighbors driveway, where the new boy friend is being interrogated by a not so kindly officer. I shrug and get ready for bed.

While I'm lying there contemplating how many times it's going to take before I finally fall asleep, I hear yelling and swearing from the other side of the house! Holy crap! Perhaps it’s like this every Saturday bit the air conditioning blots it out.

Any way twice before I faded out. Sunday was nice and uneventful. Power came back on at 12pm.
